One of the challenges in catalysis - a major pillar of green chemistry - is the recycling and reuse of catalysts that are often based on expensive and rare metals. Among the different solutions, the supported catalysis allows the attachment of catalysts on a solid support which, once engaged in a chemical reaction in liquid phase, can be recovered by simple filtration. Our approach is to use macroporous silicon with a very large specific surface as a substrate for robust and reproducible bonding of functional molecular layers via Si-C bonds followed by post-modification by catalysts. We particularly study the grafting of methacrylate polymers by SI-RDRP (Surface-Initiated Reversible Deactivation Radical Polymerization) terminated by different chemical functions to load a high concentration of two types of salen catalysts based on transition metals. The ultimate goal is to make multi-catalysis where several reactions could be achieved in a single step.
