Research Focus
Decades of nano-research discovered the new materials properties emerging from size, shape, surface, and interface. Ironically, the principal impact of the intrinsic structure of materials is more and more underestimated. We redesign nanomaterials for their nano-properties and intrinsic properties to synergistically collaborate to perform unprecedented functionalities. For instance, we synthetically tune the crystal phase and morphology of nanocrystal phosphors (e.g. Eu-doped LaPO4) in order to incorporate highly polarized luminescence property into anisotropically shaped particles (rods, disks…). Such a new type of phosphors are useful as orientation probes in micro-biosystems and also for microfluidic analysis.
