The laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée PMC PMC is a joint CNRS/Ecole Polytechnique lab(UMR 7643) headed by Jacques Peretti (DR CNRS).
Quick history of the unit
The laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée, originally called "Laboratoire Bernard Gregory," was established in 1961 by Ionel Solomon, on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique in Paris. In the 60s, the laboratory includes two scientific teams : the Solid State Physics group and the Biophysics.group.
In 1970, the laboratory has fifteen researchers. JN Chazalviel performs a thematic mobility to electrochemistry, foreshadowing the creation of a group in this field. In 1980, the Solid State Chemistry group brought in close contacts with the industry.
In the 90s, there are five scientific groups, all growing strongly : "Irregularity in Physics", "Electrons, photons, surfaces", "Electrochemistry", "Solid State Chemistry" and "Biophysics" In 2002, the biophysics group goes off and the "Electrochemistry" group strengthens.
Organization of the laboratory
The researchers’s employer is CNRS. However, most of the PhD students have a contract with Ecole Polytechnique.
