Biography:

Fabian graduated from P. Universidad Catolica and Ecole Polytechnique (MX2012) and carried out his Ph.D. at PMC from 2012-2015, after which he was awarded with the Ecole Polytechnique Thesis Award in 2016. He then joined for two years the Quantum optoelectronics group at the LPCNO, Toulouse, as a post-doc. In 2017 Fabian joined the physics department of Ecole Polytechnique and the PMC lab where he has brought a new research activity: the study of the optical properties of excitons in novel 2D semiconductors such as MoS2, MoSe2,WSe2, and WS2. Soon after joining the PMC lab, Fabian installed a setup to mechanically exfoliate van der Waals crystals and determiniscally transfer single layers into any kind of substrate and in a well controlled atmosphere. To obtain high quality samples, the 2D layers are encapsulated with very thin hexagonal boron nitride flakes. This new activity has received financial support through the Young Researcher Grant from the French National Research Agency (ANR Grant SpinCAT 2018) and an ERC Starting Grant from the European Research Council. His work has led to major contributions in the fields of spin physics in semiconductor nanostructures and 2D materials, with the publication of articles in scientific journals such as Physical Review Letters, Physical Review X, Nature Communications, 2D materials, npj 2D materials and applications, Nanoletters, Communications Physics.
